We have been working very hard on different aspects of numbers. We have been counting forwards, backwards, counting up to 100 in fives and tens and learning the numbers before and after. It has been a lot to remember!
To help us we have been using songs and games. Below you will find links to some of the songs and games we use.

Smiley Shark!!!

We have been reading the story of "Smiley Shark" in our friendship topic. It is about a smiley shark, who has no friends because all the fish are afraid of him. But when the other fish get caught in the fisherman's net it is Smiley Shark that saves them and they all become friends.
We were painting the characters  from the story for a wall display and making our own underwater characters as well.

Numbers to 100!

We are very busy learning all about numbers to 100 in Primary 2. We are learning to count to 100, identify numbers before, after and in between AND we are practising counting in tens and units.
Here are some games we have been using to help us grow in confidence in these areas.

Welcome to Primary 2!!

P2 have been very busy settling into our new class. We have been working hard on our sounds and our numbers. We had some time to make some beautiful art to decorate our new class. We created pictures of ourselves and decorated them.

Primary 2 are scientists!!!

Primary 2 have begun a joint project with Primary 6 in which we are participating in a national British survey. It is a survey by the British Science Association and Centre for Ecology & Hydrology to gather data and investigate the diversity of bumblebees in the UK. They asked schools to join in and help test the hypothesis that the diversity of bumblebees is affected by their immediate surroundings and the wider landscape.

The children have already begun going out to our newly potted lavender plant with P6 pupils (and Mrs. Robson) to observe the movements of the bees. P6 have been helping us collect the data and upload it online.

If you would like to partake in the survey with your child you can request an observation worksheet from Mrs. Baxter. Each observation requires a minimum of 5 minutes and we welcome you to complete these observations before school begins or just after school has ended. Completed observation sheets can be returned to Mrs. Baxter and we will help her upload the information.

Please help support our experiment.

Time

We have spent the past few weeks learning about time. We have been learning about analogue and digital clocks. We have been learning to tell the time at o' clock and half past. Learning half past the hour was a little tricky because the hour hand points in between two different numbers.

This is the link to a game we have been playing in class to help us identify times on digital and analogue clocks.

Katie Morag

Since Christmas our topic has been about Katie Morag, a little girl who lives on a fictional island near Scotland. We have learned about how to get to the Scottish islands, what kind of buildings they have and what kind of wildlife they have.
"I learned that the Isle of Struay is really the Island of Coll."  - Hana

"I learned that there are lots of farm animals on the Isle of Coll"- Loukas

"I didn't know that there are bottlenose dolphins near the Scottish islands" -Anita

We worked in groups of four or five to make a short film to share some information about Katie Morag and life on a Scottish island, although our writing was beautiful it hasn't come out very clearly on the videos. We hope you enjoy watching our Katie Morag videos anyway.

Please watch them and leave us some comments.

"I like counting in 10s because it is easy" - Oliwier

"I like counting in 10s because we count up to 100"- Alicia

"I like counting in 5s because I like singing the song" - Hana

Here is the link to songs we use for counting in5s and 6s in class.
